RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you are directly responsible for the overall architecture roadmap, best practices and compliance, working closely with product management, architects and engineering teams of multiple programs of Pearson. You will...

  • Support and contribute towards the forming of departmental strategy.

  • Accountable for delivering assigned Architecture Team goals within time and budget on an annual basis.

  • Hold Architects accountable to their KPIs and targets for their supported platforms.

  • Provide technical direction and support in designing software product / solutions.

  • Review and make organizational architecture improvements on a regular basis, and define / refine best practices and artifacts as needed.

  • Ensure that architecture practice areas are in place/engaged and are receiving the necessary support.

  • Evaluate existing products / systems to ensure that they meet the expectations on security, system performance and availability requirements.

  • Drive initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of quality, process and operations.

  • Work closely with his/her direct reports, peers and counterparts (other divisional stakeholders) to align Pearson Sri Lanka teams with organizational goals and objectives and address any escalations, and reporting where necessary to Head of Department.

  • Establish key working relationships with Product, Engineering and Technical Operations and ensure that delivering on roadmap will not be hindered.

  • Manage & mentor direct reports and support them in their career advancement.

  • Translate divisional goals to clear direction for direct reports.

  • Drive team performance evaluations and prescribe appropriate changes to process, policies and procedures to enable optimal team performance.

  • Support in the identification and recruitment of people as and when required.

  • Research and recommend professional development opportunities to team.

Qualifications

Key Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Preferably also a Master’s degree.

  • Years of experience varying from ten (10) years and above in system administration, software engineering and design - including a minimum of (5) years experience as an Architect or a role of senior technology leadership.

  • TOGAF® Certifications, Cloud (Vendor) Certifications and ITIL are considered an advantage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience on Java Technologies, NoSQL Datastores, Open Source technologies and Cloud computing.

  • Knowledge of architectural frameworks, architecture patterns and best practices — including capabilities such as UX, Security, API, etc.

  • Demonstrated expertise in problem solving, analytical skills and technical innovation.

  • Ability to leverage teams dive into new technological and/or product domains aligning with organizations technological and product vision.

  • Experience in Agile practices, SAFe.

  • Excellent communication abilities in English.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people, and business aspects with technical people. Able to express complex concepts in plain language.

  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external groups.
